Andrea Fáfnis Ólafs is an emerging contemporary Icelandic abstract artist whose works explore emotion, intuition, time, curiosity and cosmic connection through layered acrylics and geometries on large-scale canvas.
Artist statement
My paintings explore the essential dialogue between structure and flow – fundamental forces that shape both life and artistic creation.
This body of work originated in a period of profound personal transformation, illuminated by vivid inner visions that redirected my path to painting.
I work without preliminary sketches, approaching the canvas directly and intuitively. Each composition unfolds organically through successive layers, revealing its own internal architecture and depth.
Drawing from the geometric clarity and experimental spirit of the Bauhaus movement , and especially the spiritual geometric abstraction of Wassily Kandinsky, alongside intuitive approaches, my paintings balance intellectual precision with emotional resonance.

Artist Bio
Born in Húsavík in 1972, she has always been drawn to movement – both literal journeys around the world, as well as the flow of creation and explorations of consciousness. After years of societal engagement and advocacy in Iceland, she embraced a new chapter focused on finding joy through making art.
The chapter was sparked by vivid series of dream visions from her inner muse with messages from the Art Goddess beyond, awakening a long-dormant creative spark. These recurring invitations urged her to play with colour and form. What began as a tentative first painting surprised her deeply: the joy was overwhelming, a true rebirth filled with profound gratitude that seemed to flow through every cell. Painting became essential – an irreplaceable source of vitality and childlike wonder. And now, she cannot imagine a life without it; the studio is where her spirit breathes freely.
Inspired by the Bauhaus movement’s timeless geometry and bold initiative, particularly the pioneer Wassily Kandinsky, Andrea infuses her work with universal truths: love, joy and creation as frequency, waves of consciousness, and subtle references to ancient cultures that spark curiosity and imagination. She sneaks these elements in playfully, allowing viewers to discover their own meanings.
Her process is experimental and flowing, no sketches or major preparations -but rather just turning up in front of the canvas, tuning her spirit into the wavelength of creation, enjoying the surprises, and letting inspiration and intuition guide without resistance.
She shares a small studio with her musician partner, where visual art and enchanting music meet; occasionally, they collaborate on song lyrics that blend their worlds.
Most of Andrea’s originals are sold and held in private collections. Available work is by inquiry only and since most works are sold; commissions for similar pieces or custom creations with artistic freedom are welcome.
